Priorities
If you want to create margin in your schedule, complete the following steps:
- Make a list of three or four of the most important things in your life. What would you choose to fill your schedule with? What are the main things, your true priorities?
- Now make a list of all the things that currently fill up your schedule on a consistent basis. Include each category that you are committed to, such as church related activities, your children’s sports activities, work, meetings, volunteer activities, hobbies, school, working out, etc.
- Is there an inconsistency between what you prioritize in theory and what you actually spend your time doing? If so, go through your list in question number two and scratch out activities you could eliminate from your schedule. These would be commitments that are not truly priorities for you based on your answer to the first question.
- Make a commitment to slowly wean yourself off your hectic schedule. Start by cutting out one activity immediately. Then every month remove an activity from your schedule that is not a priority until the only items left are the ones you listed as your true priorities.
